How to download Youtube Videos in Ubuntu without any addon or applications

Well I had this in my head since a very long time and wanted to share here. Well, as you know there are many addon’s/softwares available for downloading youtube videos. Well there is a workaround by which you can download them without any Firefox Addon’s or any other external application.

Generally when the youtube video’s are streamed, the video is getting actually downloaded on your PC. It will be stored in a temproary folder. Once you are done watching the video, the video gets deleted from your computer.

Follow the steps below to download the video:

1. Go to the YouTube page of the video you want to download in Firefox.
2. Let it load completely (be sure to select HQ/HD if you want best quality)
3. Do NOT close the browser OR the page
4. Open Nautilus and navigate to /tmp
5. Drag the file named “Flash” (followed by letters and numbers) to your desktop and rename it.
6. You are done and you can watch the video.

Twitter Commands You Did Not Know

Well , these days everyone is a twitter addict. Even I am:) You can follow me here. So below are the coolest commands which you can use it with twitter!

Let’s skip the basics. I assume you already know how to reply (@username), direct message (D username), retweet (RT @username) and so on.

NON SEARCH COMMANDS

Try entering the following commands into the Twitter ‘post’ field, rather than as a search query. Results will appear in a dropdown overlay at the top of your Twitter feed…

1)GET username

This simply grabs the last tweets from a user, for example if you ‘tweet’ ‘GET lakey’ you’ll be presented with my last tweet (and you won’t actually tweet anything).

2)WHOIS username

A quick way of checking out a user is to use the WHOIS command. Tweet ‘WHOIS lakey’ and you’ll see the following, in a dropdown (and once again, you won’t tweet anything yourself)

3)FAV username

This adds the last tweet by that user to your favourites.

Well in years to come I feel twitter search will be one of the ultimate resources of information. Well below are the few search tweeks you can try with twitter search

THE JOY OF TWITTER SEARCH

1)FROM

To see the tweets I have sent simply enter the following query: ‘from:pradeep1288

2)TO

Who has been publicly messaging me recently? Find out by searching for  TO:pradeep1288

3)CITATIONS

Pretty straightforward, I know, but you can search for ‘@pradeep1288‘ to see tweets where I have been mentioned. Includes retweets, rather than tweets aimed directly at me.

In the same way that you can use various commands and operators in Google to filter results, you can tweak Twitter search queries so that only relevant results are returned…

4)EXACT MATCH

Just like in Google you can wrap around some quotation marks to return exact phrases, such as:

“captain beefheart

5)EITHER / OR

Consider the above example. Since Twitter is character limited some of those Captain Beefheart fans might simply refer to him as ‘beefheart’. To look for both variations type in the following query:

“captain beefheart” OR “beefheart”

6)NOT / MINUS / AVOID

Use the ‘NOT’ command by adding a hyphen / minus sign. So if you want to find the captain but avoid the beefheart, and I can’t think why you would, then you can use this:

captain –beefheart

7)GO LOCAL

This is pretty cool. You can filter tweets by location, to only show search results near to you. For example, you can see what people are wishing for near London.

“I wish” near:London

8)GO HYPERLOCAL

If the above example isn’t enough then why not target your search query by distance. You can ringfence results by applying a ‘distance’ parameter:

“I wish” near:London within:5km

And hey, it even does imperial measurements too… replace kilometers with miles if you want to annoy the Eurocrats:

“I wish” near:London within:5mi

9)NARROW BY DATE

If you need to filter results by date then you can add a range of date operators to your search query. For example, if I wanted to check out how many tweets have referenced Econsultancy in the past week (more than 1,400 as it happens) I can use the ‘SINCE’ command:

econsultancy since:2009-06-23

Alternatively I can look up tweets containing the word ‘Econsultancy’ up UNTIL 23 June as follows:

econsultancy until:2009-06-23

10)FIND QUESTIONS TO ANSWER

Twitter’s search tool recognises the question mark, which is great if – like us – you’re in the business of helping people. For example, if you are a search wizard then you could try entering the following:

“i need” help seo ?

11)FIND LINKS

Use the FILTER:LINKS command to unearth tweets with third part links. I like listening to Animal Collective whenever possible and can often be found hunting for pointers:

“Animal Collective” filter:links

At this stage you might want to remember the NOT / MINUS command [-], since we’re not really interested in seeing all those spammy blip.fm links:

“Animal Collective” filter:links –blip.fm

I hope you liked this post!:) Please RT and let others also know:)

Free Worldwide Travel Guides – Wikitravel

I was googling for a place which one of my friends visited. Then I happened to find the description about that in wiki travel. So well documented! Lets say you are planning for a vacation and you want to visit some places. Will you not be happy to find all the necessary information about the place you are looking for in single site?? The ways by which you can get there,Hotels near by,Places to see etc etc.

WikiTravel currently does not have that much information. Its we who have to add information to it. Write about places you visited, how to get there, accomodation etc etc on WikiTravel. You can also add/edit existing details about a location on  WikiTravel Page!. The site is just like wikipedia, but completely dedicated to travelling. So my request for everyone is to add some contents about the places to visit near your home town and all. Would’nt that be Great!Lets help WikiTravel.

So what are the ways you can contribute to the WikiTravel project:

The below information was found on the Wikitravel Site:

There are as many ways to help Wikitravel as there are Wikitravellers. This article is for those who like the idea of Wikitravel, but are having a hard time getting started with contributing.

  • Update the article for the town/region you live in.
    • Navigate to the article for your home town, either by going through the directory on the Main Page or using the search functionality.
    • Take a good look to see that it’s correct, if the article is there.
    • Make sure that major attractions are listed.
    • Would you recommend a restaurant or a pub that is currently missing?
    • See if you can fill in any details (hours, prices, phone numbers) for any of the entries there.
    • If there’s not an article on your home town, start one!
    • Please, repeat this exercise for your home state or province, region, country, or whatever.
  • Find articles to help with. There are many ways to do this.
    • Special:Newpages gives you all the pages that have been created recently.
    • Special:Recentchanges gives you the pages that have been edited recently.
    • Orphaned pages gives you articles that do not have links pointing to them. Unless you do something about them, they are most likely to be forgotten about, because contributors will ordinarily never come across them or improve them.
    • Dead-end pages are those which do not link to any other. Sometimes this is okay, but often this indicates that the page has been created by a new user who is not yet familiar with inserting wikilinks.
    • Special:Randompage, as the name suggests, will throw up a random page. Usually, you can find something to improve in any page.
  • Proofread. This is one of the easiest ways to get started with helping with Wikitravel. While you’re reading an article, watch for spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, or other writing gaffes. If you see one, edit the page and correct it. Wikitravel is now that much better — thanks to you!
  • Reformat articles. Wikitravel has a manual of style for giving a consistent look-and-feel to our content and making it easier for travellers to find and use information. Just as with proofreading, you can do a lot of good just by reformatting or restructuring articles to match the Manual. Articles that need reformatting are typically stub articles, which usually lack standard headings and outlines. The dead end pages, which list articles without any links on them, are also worth a look.
  • Organize the Geographical hierarchy. Work to help organise regions and to make make it easier to navigate the site.
  • Rate articles. Wikitravel has a system to indicate the maturity status of articles. This helps keep track of what stage an article is in and how many articles are at what level of maturity.
  • Expand listings. It can help a lot to take short restaurant listings, attraction listings, or other listings and fill them out. Contributors will often leave out crucial information about an attraction, such as its address, phone number, hours, or price. Often, this information can be found on the World Wide Web (see contributor research links for some starting points).
  • Check for articles for places you’ve visited. As with your home town, find articles for places you’ve visited. Check them for accuracy, add information, or start them new.
  • Don’t limit yourself to things you already know. You don’t have to have firsthand knowledge of a destination or topic to contribute to the article! Find articles that need work and do some research — on Wikipedia, on the Web, or with other reference media — to get started on working on that article.
  • Make outlines. Don’t be daunted by the task of writing all of the article about Russia — just get it started with an outline. People are much more likely to change or add to articles than to start them from scratch. We have a bunch of handy templates for destination guides, which you can use. If you only know a teensy bit about a subject, go ahead and add it in. We currently have a huge backlog of stub articles that shouldn’t really be there. It is easy to create an outline for most articles and move them to the next level. You can help there.
  • Watch for wanted articles. The Special:Wantedpages feature of our software lets you see which articles have been linked to but not yet written. These are excellent places to get started — you’re filling in what is an obvious need for the travel guide.
  • Follow red links. While you’re reading articles, if you see a link for an article that’s Not There Yet, follow the link and add in some information. We’re nowhere near close to covering all the info we need to have — when you start a new page, we’re that much closer.
  • Take Wikitravel with you. Before you go on a trip, try to find articles in Wikitravel about the destinations you’re visiting. Print them out — or download them to your PDA, or whatever — and take them with you on your trip. Keep notes on what’s right, what’s wrong, and what’s missing. If the destination you’re going to isn’t in Wikitravel yet, take notes for a new article to start when you get back.
  • Join an Expedition. There are several tasks for making a real travel guide that require special skills and talents. We’ve created special subprojects called Expeditions to organize the efforts of people who have these talents. Do you know a foreign (non-English) language? Help out with the Phrasebook Expedition. Can you draw? Try your hand at the Mapmaking Expedition.
  • Promote Wikitravel. The more people who read and contribute to Wikitravel, the better it becomes, and the closer we get to our goal of making a free, complete, up-to-date and reliable world-wide travel guide. There are a number of ways to promote Wikitravel; check to see if you can do one or more of them.
  • Help new contributors. New users contributing to Wikitravel can have a lot of questions and problems. Your experience with Wikitravel can make their learning curve a lot easier. Watch for questions in the travellers’ pub or on talk pages and respond helpfully. If you see the same question over and over, add it to the FAQ. You can even add to the Help index for more complicated questions or issues. If there are help topics already in place that people seem not to see or understand, maybe you can help get that information out by reorganizing the help area.
  • Cheerlead. Nothing makes people feel better than knowing their work is appreciated. When you see a good piece of writing, or a great picture, or whatever, let the Wikitraveller who made it know that you liked it. Just a bit of encouragement on the article’s talk page, or on the user’s user talk page, can make a world of difference.
  • Shape the community. Our project is still young, and much of the way we’ve decided to work together is still untested. If you have ideas for how to work together better, please suggest them as new policies and guidelines. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been a Wikitraveller: you just might have an idea that will make things work smoother. At worst, you’ll make explicit some policy that’s currently implicit; that’s a good thing. If there are policies already in place that people aren’t following, maybe you can help get that information out by reorganizing the policies area.
  • Welcome new users. When new users come onto Wikitravel, it’s nice to leave them a brief welcome message pointing them to important parts of the site. We normally wait until folks have created a user account and possibly set up their own user page. Welcome messages let new contributors know that they’re part of a community, and also make sure they have pointers to important tools for contributing.
  • Clean up the travellers’ pub. The travellers’ pub, as the default place to put discussions about Wikitravel, tends to get a little crowded at times. For this reason people take turns moving discussions out of the pub and into the archives or to more specific talk pages. It only takes a few minutes, it helps make discussions more clear, and it’s easy to do.
  • Make or edit policy and style guidelines. The policies and manual of style define how we work together to make a great travel guide. If you’re working on Wikitravel and think there’s ways we can make a better guide, or we can work together better to achieve our goals, by all means start a new policy or guideline page! We try to make decisions by consensus, so there’s no guarantee that your idea will be accepted, but it definitely won’t be if you don’t suggest it in the first place!
  • Work on MediaWiki. The software we use for Wikitravel is called MediaWiki. If you know the PHP programming language, contributing to MediaWiki really helps Wikitravel. Fixing bugs or adding features makes it easier for other Wikitravellers to add great content.

End your social networking life with Seppukoo

The site, Seppukoo.com, offers ritual suicide for Facebook users’ virtual profiles by deactivating your account. And it doesn’t stop there. If you’re willing to end it all, the site will feature a RIP memorial page on its site and sends the page to all your Facebook friends.

To take the final step, you simply type in the same information you use to log onto your Facebook account including e-mail address and password. (The site says it does not save the information.) Then choose one of six templates for the memorial page and compose your “last words.” After that’s entered: curtains. The profile is deactivated. (If you want back on Facebook, just log in and your account is reactivated.)
